N.S.W. state election 2015 - APTNSW policies

Transport for growth corridors

Sydney is growing fast and with good reason. It's a great city to live in. The NSW government has identified growth corridors and priority precincts as the areas of Sydney that will soak up the expansion in population. However, APTNSW is concerned that this growth is not being supported by public transport expansion. Places like Green Square, North Ryde, Sydney Olympic Park and Parramatta are all experiencing rapid population explosions. Unfortunately, we are not seeing similar expansions in the public transport network to cater to these areas. Buses in these areas are already too infrequent and/or crowded, and there are still thousands more residents to move in. There are other major new suburbs and growth corridors the state government has identified which will experience similar problems if nothing is done. Public transport represents the most suitable option for moving people to, from and within these rapidly growing areas.

APTNSW calls on NSW election candidates to commit to a rapid expansion of public transport options in future growth areas using the best evidence-based modes as appropriate, be it light rail, heavy rail or buses.
