Proposed F3 - M2 road link challenged

posted Tuesday 13 August 2002
An environmental group has challenged the federal government's assumption that a new road is needed linking the F3 freeway at Kariong with the M2 freeway in north-western Sydney.

A position paper by the environment group Step Inc. recommends that a study recently commissioned by the federal government should be undertaken as a transport-options study, not as a road study.

The federal government has engaged Sinclair Knight Mertz to investigate the proposed road link.

STEP urges in its position paper that a road based option is not a long term, sustainable solution, and will only further lock the region into car dependent travel patterns.'

The position paper can be viewed at http://www.step.org.au.
