Commuter Input to Integrated Ticketing Project

posted Saturday 22 March 2003
Now that the Department of Transport has signed a contract with ERG for the installation of an Integrated Ticketing System for Sydney's public transport, the next stage of the design work can begin. To date, there has been little or no formal input from commuters or from the public in general as to what they want from the system.

Action for Public Transport has submitted to the Department a proposal for a Commuters' Committee as part of the formal system design structure. This committee would review the work so far, make requests for additions or changes, and receive reports on progress.

As well as commuter organisations, other groups would be invited to join representing the interests of pensioners, students, social service beneficiaries, etc. A feature of the committee would be the non-admission of transport operators, so that the users' requests can be input to the design process free of qualifications by the operators.

It is hoped that, subject to the approval of the Department, the first meeting of the committee can be held before the end of April.
