Spit Bridge - proposed widening

posted Monday 9 June 2003
The NSW Roads & Traffic Authority plans to widen the Spit Bridge over Middle Harbour in an attempt to solve local traffic congestion. There is widespread community opposition to the proposal, which is seen as ill-conceived, and as addressing just a symptom of the much wider and more complex transport and access problems of the Warringah peninsula. North Shore MP, Jillian Skinner, and North Sydney Mayor, Genia McCaffery, have criticised the proposal (Mosman Daily, 29/05/2003).

A "slow walk" across the bridge is being organised by the local "Sensible Traffic Action Group" (stagroup@hotmail.com). The walk will commence at 11am on Sunday June 22 from Spit Reserve on the south side of the bridge.
