Submission to Public Transport Funding Inquiry

posted Sunday 22 June 2003
APT has made a submission to the inquiry called by the Transport Minister, Mr Costa, into the funding of public transport in New South Wales. Submissions close on 30th June 2003. First we made the point that the Minister's questions have already been answered many times during the past twenty years, both in reports by and to government departments, and by transport experts around the world. What is lacking is not information on what or how to change, but the will to change.

However, we were reluctant to let the opportunity pass without having some useful input. Therefore our submission contains suggestions on funding sources, on improving public transport, on reducing car usage and on service standards. Many references are given to support and amplify these comments. These include publications and internet sites concerning specific local issues and general world-wide experience.

APT hopes to have continuing input as the process moves through the draft report stage towards the preparation of the final report to the Minister in December 2003.

The submission can be found at http://www.aptnsw.org.au/documents/parry.htm.
