New Bus to Wharf Connection Welcomed

posted Thursday 14 July 2005
State Transit's initiative in extending the city terminus of two bus routes to King Street Wharf is to be commended, says the consumer group, Action for Public Transport (APT).

A spokesman for APT, Allan Miles, said that the new service on the routes 412 and 413 buses, commencing on Sunday 17th July, provides several benefits.

"First," Mr Miles said, "it enables city bound passengers on these routes from the Inner West to continue along George Street to Wynyard, instead of ending their journey at Town Hall. This removes the need to change buses and perhaps pay another fare."

Mr Miles said that the new terminus at King Street Wharf also provides a bus service for ferry passengers to and from the CBD. "Ferries from Darling Harbour and commuter services from the Parramatta River call at this wharf," Mr Miles said, "and on leaving the ferry, the passengers can now take a bus up into the city."

"It is pleasing to see that State Transit and Sydney Ferries are open to innovative changes of routes," Mr Miles said. "As a result passengers have better services and the two transport modes are integrated." Mr Miles said that passengers with integrated transport tickets such as TravelPass will benefit from the new arrangement.

"All buses on routes 412 and 413 will terminate at King Street Wharf," Mr Miles said, "providing a service from 7.00 am until midnight Monday to Saturday and until 10 pm Sunday."

Mr Miles said that the new terminus will also remove the need for these buses to lay-over in the city centre. Buses require lay-over areas to wait after ending an inbound run until they start the return outbound run.
