North Sydney railway station upgrade

posted Tuesday 25 October 2005

The Review of Environmental Factors ("REF") for this project is open for public comment from 4 October 2005 until 2 November 2005. See http://www.tidc.nsw.gov.au/ViewSite.aspx?PageID=294 for more up-to-date information.

You can download a summary of the REF (2667710 bytes PDF) from that site. APT have softcopy of Volume 1 (14584494 bytes PDF) and Volume 2 (6357673 bytes PDF) obtained at a public consultation.

Volume 1 shows that Sydney's fourth-busiest railway station is being given a limited-budget makeover despite the extra traffic expected when the Epping-Chatswood railway opens in 2008. This decision relies on the promise of former premier Bob Carr's announcement in July 2005 of a new railway under the city, crossing the harbour, and giving North Sydney a second railway station. If that new railway does not eventuate, North Sydney station will remain seriously underprovisioned.
