Conference - Reform of NSW bus services - "Local Issues" - Parramatta

"Bus reform, local issues, doing democracy" - conference
9.30am - 3.30pm, Wednesday 22 November 2006, Carlton Hotel, Parramatta.
With the Unsworth Bus Reform unfolding in western Sydney come along to Western Sydney Community Forum's 'Local issues - doing democracy' conference to learn from UK experiences in bus reform.
Wednesday is the second day of the Forum's Annual Conference, and will be of special interest to those with a transport focus.
Joe Lynch, formerly Areas Officer with Bus Users UK and now Divisional Manager (Public Transport) Plymouth City Council, will talk about how Bus Users UK:
- strengthen the voice of bus users in the discussion of public transport issues
- increase the influence of bus passengers on local and national decisions affecting bus services
- develop good communication between bus companies and their passengers.
Bus Users UK:
- help set up local bus users groups
- organise local bus users surgeries, where passengers can get to talk to their bus managers and local government officers, tell them what they think - and hear their viewpoint, too;
- arrange meetings with bus companies and local authorities help with local problems, both for individuals and for groups are represented on the Bus Appeals Body
- encourage and promote good practice in the bus industry
Time will also be provided to discuss how Western Sydney can work together to support bus reform.
