Rail fares - IPART Inquiry - closes 3 August 2007

posted Sunday 22 July 2007
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of NSW (IPART) is conducting a review of CityRail fares.

CityRail has proposed increases in single fares of 20 cents for up to 35 km (Central - Blacktown/Hornsby/Cronulla/Glenfield), 40 cents up to 75 km, 60 cents up to 175 km and $1 beyond that. Weekly tickets would rise by $2 or $3 and TravelPasses by $2.

CityRail's justification is

  1. services have improved
  2. more money is needed to continue operational and capital improvements,
  3. passengers should bear more (and taxpayers less) of the cost, and
  4. passengers can afford the increase.

See details on http://www.ipart.nsw.gov.au/.

If you would like to to comment on these matters, or on any other matter concerning rail fares, you can make a submission to IPART by email at transport@ipart.nsw.gov.au or by mail to IPART at PO Box Q290, QVB Post Office, NSW 1230. Enquiries to 9290 8420. Submissions close on Friday 3rd August. Your submission will be made available to the public unless you request otherwise.

Your submission can be as short or as long as you wish. It would assist the Tribunal if your comments could refer specifically to items in CityRail's submission.
