The Herald of the following day (5.12.07) published an editorial condemning the proposal. It also carried 7 letters to the editor, criticising the idea. By implication, it appears there may have been many more letters.
APTNSW's letter was heavily edited, compromising the logic of our argument. Here's the full text of our letter-

The Victoria Road bus trip could be reduced by ten minutes starting this Friday. Just police the Transit Lane. Eighty percent of the vehicles presently in the Transit Lane are there illegally.
And instead of wasting $150 million on duplicating Iron Cove Bridge, think ahead. Capitalise on the new Federal – State Labor alliance to do something about peak oil and global warming. Build the 100kph Kensington – City – Ryde metro railway along the Victoria Road corridor, with new technology, new rolling stock and new industrial relations agreements. With the metro’s speed and capacity, the “need” for widening Victoria Road evaporates".
