Faster buses on Victoria Road

posted Monday 22 June 2009
From Sunday 31 May inbound Victoria Road bus passengers have saved about one minute in travel time thanks to a simple re-phasing of the traffic signals at the Druitt/Sussex intersection in the city. The 12 000 inbound passengers a day now not only have a faster trip, but the psychological stress of being stalled just metres from the first city stop has been relieved.

It only took the RTA two days to change the signal lanterns, but it took 10 months of APT lobbying for them to get around to it. Inbound buses had been delayed by up to three minutes since August 2008. The Druitt Street route is itself inferior to the former Bathurst Street route, lost to the requirement for a Bathurst Street portal for the controversial Cross City Tunnel.
