NEWS RELEASE: Still no plan for Sydney transport

posted Wednesday 30 November 2011
After eight months of O'Farrell government there is still no credible plan for getting more than twenty thousand people to Barangaroo each day nor for handling the extra trains that will need to pass through the CBD when the new south-west and north-west railways open.

And there is little sign of action to shift freight from road to rail around Port Botany and the airport, and on dangerous roads such as west through the Blue Mountains and north to Newcastle.

Difficult decisions need to be made to relieve rail congestion under the CBD and across the Harbour and to ease bus congestion around Wynyard. If these decisions are not made promptly, Infrastructure NSW may commandeer all transport funds for road-building, leaving nothing for rail.

Action for Public Transport calls on the NSW Government to make these decisions now.
