Dear Mr Plummer,
Comments on Preliminary Draft Major Development Plan
Ground Transport Solutions
Action for Public Transport is a transport consumer group. Our funds derive almost entirely from membership fees. Our members are users and beneficiaries of public transport.
We see much that could and should be done to encourage public transport ridership to and from the airport, both by staff and passengers. While some of the following might appear beyond your province, we suggest that you could help by seeking government support:
- All surcharges (gate fees) at airport railway stations should be removed.
- The airport should be connected with the Metrobus network which is serviced by distinctive red buses. We suggest that routes M30 and M20 should be altered to stop at domestic and international terminals.
- Bus stops at terminals should be close to the main doors. This includes the Murray's Coaches services at the international terminal. Any plans for a bus interchange several hundred metres away should be cancelled.
- There should be separate stops at each terminal for the two directions of route 400 buses, one for westbound and one for eastbound.
- Passengers should have the option of booking ground transport, including buses and trains, with their air tickets.
- Cars should be deterred, by conspicuous warning signs and cameras, from illegal use of bus stops.
