Action for Public Transport (N.S.W.)

The problem

Excessive use of the private car in cities, and of heavy vehicles for road transport of freight, has many undesirable consequences:

More freeways will only encourage more cars onto the road and make the problem worse. This solution has been tried elsewhere, and has failed.

People will be attracted away from public transport, which will degenerate from lack of funds, and thus lose still more patrons.

Residential and recreational areas will be devastated.

And all to no avail.

In the end, the roads will still be congested.

The solution

We must discourage private car use.

Action for Public Transport is a group that campaigns for government policies to achieve this goal.

Our objectives are:

  1. To foster and promote the expansion and improvement of public transport services for the overall benefit of the community.
  2. To promote a rational transport system having regard to environmental and social consequences and to efficient use of resources.
  3. To promote public discussion and participation in the provision of transport services.
  4. To support research to further the above aims.
