Action for Public Transport has made several submissions this year, some for particular state transport projects and some for federal studies. The number of NSW proposals is well down on last year's because of where we are in the four-year state electoral cycle (governments prefer to go to elections with projects well under way or finished). We have appeared at several inquiries, both state and federal.
We made submissions on Westconnex and its tributary tollways but the current NSW government seems determined to press ahead regardless of flaws in the project. We encounter the same obstinacy in other matters, such as all-over advertising wrapped around many buses, trams and even train carriages. These advertisements can prevent passengers seeing outside but authorities won't acknowledge that.
APTNSW's greatest need at present is to broaden our membership base. That would enhance our credibility with government, transport officials and the public.
We again thank our loyal members for their patient support.
