Action for Public Transport (N.S.W.) Inc.

Action for Public Transport (NSW) is a transport advocacy group active in Sydney since 1974. We promote the interests of beneficiaries of public transport - both of passengers and the wider community. We make this submission on the Stage 1 (Initial Precincts) land use and infrastructure implementation plan for Western Sydney Aerotropolis dated August 2018.

Generally, we think that the airport should be thought of as Western Sydney's Airport rather than Sydney's western airport. Connections should be planned accordingly. We are pleased to see that rail connections are planned from the aerotropolis area to both St Marys and Leppington. We are particularly concerned that these connections should be in place and operating before airport operation starts. Not having them would distort the development of transport in the whole of western Sydney and would lead to entrenched over-reliance on private car travel.

We note that according to paragraph 7.2 (Rezoning of initial precincts) it is expected that rezoning will commence after the release of the Final Plan and will be finalised before the end of 2019. We would like to see the development of both rail links similarly expedited.
